I pondered long upon a gift that your heart would surely love,
To bless you now with all you need
With warmth, more than enough.
I searched the malls, the catalogues
But, nothing there I found,
To fill all your tomorrows with blessings that abound.
I wanted light for you, aglow all through the night,
So, I turned my sight above where there is more on high.
For I knew the gift of life that would lift you through a day,
Would be of soul alone, to take your breath away.
And so, I whispered, Jesus... Please grant my friend
Your PEACE,
May a trusting faith in You, bring strength to never cease.
Fill them with abundant JOY
Overflowing full and free,
To burst aloud with joyous song, each day, continually.
May HOPE, then top Your gift
Expectancy, surprise,
A lightness in the spirit, life behind their eyes.
Oh, please bless them so forever
With these three gifts divine,
Your PEACE and JOY and HOPE
For my special friend, so kind.

The well-known maxim,
"While there is life there is hope," has a deeper meaning in reverse: "While there is hope there is life." Hope comes first, life follows. Hope gives power to life- it rouses life to continue, expand, grow, to reach out, to go on. Hope sees a light where there isn't any. Hope lights candles in millions of despairing hearts. Hope is the miracle medicine of the mind. It inspires the will to live. Hope is the physician's strongest ally. Hope is our shield against defeat. "Hope," wrote Alexander Pope, "springs eternal in the human breast," -to triumph and move forward. Hope never sounds retreat. Hope keeps the banners flying. Hope revives ideals and dreams. Hope scales the peak, wrestles with the impossible, achieves the highest aim. "The word which God has written on the brow of every person," wrote Victor Hugo, "is Hope." As long as we have hope no situation is hopeless. |
~ Hope Beyond Hope ~
Where shall a soul be helped, what direction can it be
Is there strength upon the mountaintops, somewhere safe to lean
When the light has almost gone
can it ever be returned
When the flame has flickered low, will it ever brightly burn
Will hope ever be rekindled, when a soul can cry no more
Shall a countenance find an inner smile, when shut behind a door
Is every hand that reaches out,
always bent to hurt
Might every dream be abandoned, for fear of being burnt
Can broken hearts be mended, fragile passion be renewed
Can trust again be contemplated,
will any good come true
Is there hope in another day, a hope that is shining bright
Is there a love to break the sorrow, a light to shine within the night
Yes, hope is in lifting our eyes to the hills
To all we cannot see
To believe in the promise
That the everlasting love of God
Is holding onto you and me.

Hope is a gift to grasp, a gift that we can give,
Hope is a very special treasure
To grant us strength to live.
We do not know its worth, until our joy is lost,
We do not understand its power
Nor what its loss will cost
When we are burdened down, with pain that is too great,
Then hope alone inspires our faith
That God rejuvenates.
There's much beyond our sight we cannot comprehend,
But, God is working with design
And loves us as a friend.

~ The Window Of Hope ~
When we meet with raging storm, beyond our own control
Whatever can we do, whatever can we hold
When trial falls upon us, so that we cannot cope
Wherever can we turn,
where is there any hope
When instilled with such a fear, that we huddle in despair
Who can we even turn to, when it's too hard to care
When it lashes and consumes, each day with sore torment
Why is there such a thing,
why is it even sent
Like Job of old, we writhe in pain, and cry unto the sky
God, save me or I perish, God save me or I die
And, there within the horror, He comes to soothe our soul
He comes to take our hand,
He comes as one to hold
To be our friend and comfort, to whisper, there is hope
With wisdom for the moment and strength so we can cope
He opens wide the window, to say it's come, to pass
To let us know His life, His love,
beyond it all, will last

Like little birds, we only fly when we get shaken out of our nests;
and develop the strongest wings
only when we try them against the wind.
The dove in a fable, was perturbed because the wind ruffled its feathers,
but without that air
it could neither soar nor live.
In struggle, it is prudent to not wish away every opposition.
It is better to meet and master our difficulties
that faith can be made stronger through conflict.
Leroy Brownlow
At no time is there the faintest suggestion
that the life of faith exempts us from difficulties.
What is promised is preservation
from all the evil in them.
All the water in the oceans cannot sink a ship unless it gets inside.
Nor can all the trouble in the world harm us,
unless it gets within.
That is the promise of Psalms 121. The Lord will keep us from all evil.

~ The promise of hope ~
She untied the pretty ribbon...expectation in her heart,
To find a lasting pleasure
Ecstasy impart.
But, to her disappointment...little did she find,
Just empty satin lining
Nothing to call 'mine'.
Sadly she turned away...crushing was her sorrow,
The promises of love
Vanished for tomorrow.
Oh, let her find true treasure... in another box,
So when she looks inside
The promise isn't lost.
May she find a certain place...where her trust can be secure,
An endless supply of love
That always will endure.
Sadly she turned... and there she saw...an opened chest, a grave,
And coming forth her Lord Jesus
Where all hope is laid.
Deep within His gentle eyes, affirmation..her need now satisfied,
In the perfect love poured out
When for her...He died.

~ Prayer Of Hope ~
I saw you reaching out somehow, I felt your heart of care
Your heartbeat for a stranger, the love you sought to share
I saw you going in with love, to lift a motherless child
When there was no-one else who could
I saw your gentle smile.
I saw you cuddle close a crying tot, though she was not your own
You held her sorrow to your heart
So she was not alone
I saw so many different folk together, sharing all they had
Touching with a gift of love, to make another glad
I saw the heart of God
In all there was to do
The flame of 'hope' yet burning bright
By the love Of God in you.

God of our life, there are days when the burdens we carry
chafe our shoulders and weigh us down;
when the road seems dreary and endless,
the skies grey and threatening;
when our lives have no music in them, and our hearts are lonely,
and our souls have lost their courage.
Flood the path with light,
run our eyes to where the skies are full of promise;
tune our hearts to Your brave music;
give us the sense of comradeship with heroes and saints of every age;
and so quicken our spirits that we may be able to encourage the souls
of all who journey with us on the road of life,
to Your honour and glory.

~ Hold On To Love ~
In the reaching, life can bring so many things
Such confusion on the way, error, illness, sorrow
May surround our heart today
A dread to face tomorrow may feel a conquering force
Strife, rejection, hopelessness
can seem to be the source.
Mysteries, inconsistencies come to plague our conscious mind
Our dreams may fill with fear,
as peace we long to find
But, hope is holding on... God's way will stay secure
Undaunted, undismayed,
we know His love is pure
No power can touch His faithfulness -He will sustain us through
No ill can shake our confidence
That all He says is true
We can take Him at His word, real faith believes it so
Simply, just because He said it,
is enough for us to know
And then our minds are held as His love removes the fear
His thoughts replacing ours
Become the miracle to persevere
It matters not today, if tomorrow's all unknown
For the God of this almighty universe
Holds us as His very own.

May we look, to find beyond
To seek to grasp more of the hope
Where You know that we belong
Your powerful hand controls the gales, You plant Your feet upon the storm
The seasons flow at Your command, and all creation by Your word
When furious wind blew on the mountain
Your voice could not be heard
In mighty earthquakes, no message there
Nor in the fire that burned...
Then where is found the voice we need,
Soft whispers...still our souls to hear
To rest within Your tender heart,
Where love can never fear.
