Hope For The Broken Hearted Nov 5th
Dear Lord, fear and faith go hand in hand.
If we never had to come up against things that scare us and fill us with dread,
we would not know that you are with us and that we have no need to fear.
Our faith must be tested, or it’s no faith at all…
we only truly can know and believe because we have seen you fulfill your promises…
I pray for those who are facing impossible, hopeless situations today.
I know you often will allow us to get to the point where the only possible help is a miracle from you...
that way everyone can see your power and know that you alone are the one that answered our prayers.
Lord, I ask you to make a way today where there seems no way.
Please go before us and make the rough roads smooth and open doors that no man can shut .
Please may your children find hope in you.
We thank you in advance for what you're going to do.
In Jesus' name, Amen

How to practice 2 days without power
marksdailyapple-experiment-intentional-power-outage
So, now, here’s what I want you to do. I want you to spend a weekend – two full nights, minimum –
living under a self-imposed intentional power outage.
Even if you live in a sunny climate and even if you’ve got a generator hooked up for worst-case scenarios,
I want you to completely disconnect from electricity.
We’re going to find out what it really feels like to turn off and drop out.
NOTE
we miss out on time to talk to and listen to/have a relationship with God,
because of the constant hammering of sound today,
we need to sit in gardens and watch God's beauty and believe HE IS)
That means:
But it’s also something I take for granted. It’s something I’ve come to expect as a given,
an essential aspect of life that I give little thought to,
like the presence of oxygen and the influence of gravity on everyday life.
I think that’s probably true for most of us reading this post.
This experiment, I think, will make that clearer than ever.
Once you’ve successfully completed your intentional power outage weekend,
ponder your findings. Did you enjoy it? Was it more restful? Stressful?
Was it unbearable? If so, why? Was it a nice surprise? How so? What did you learn?
Did you sleep better? Is this something you’ll try to work into your daily life from now on,
or was it a nice vacation but not anything you’d care to repeat? Give it an honest shot.
How-to-survive-a-natural-disaster
The importance of having people nearby on whom you can rely (and they you).
you might want to think about having a group of people upon whom you can rely (and vice versa).
You might want to think about obtaining the one resource you can’t simply buy and store in your garage
that is: friends.
Friends can help each other hunt, forage, and garden.
Ten pairs of hands (minds, sets of legs) are better and far more effective at survival.
Ten pairs of hands can chop more wood, carry more water, build more things, and pull more weeds.
Ten minds can come up with a better solution for water purification or shelter fortification.
Ten sets of legs can cover more ground and find more survivors and food.
We all have friends, of course.
But in today’s world of Facebook, Twitter, email, and mobile phones
that allow instant connectivity with anyone and everyone anywhere,
our friends often live far from us. Or perhaps across town,
which doesn’t help us if the roads are blocked and our cars are underwater.
For friends to be helpful in disaster recovery, they need to be close. What about our neighbors – within arm’s reach? These are the people who will be able to help us when disaster strikes.
These are the people with whom we’ll be able to share supplies and divvy up responsibilities.
However, research shows that these people are increasingly not our friends.
We might share casual words on trash day with them, but we probably feel awkward asking them to feed our cat and water our plants when we’re away. The beauty of it is that because these are now your friends that need help,
you don’t feel “put upon.” You want to help them, because,
well, they’re your friends and that’s what friends do. That’s what a tribe does.
Research even shows that in real life disasters, it’s not the government aid, the fire trucks, or the emergency responders that really help people survive in the immediate.
It’s the friends, the neighbors, the community.
It’s Paul from next door who you let borrow your tool set last year who’s going to pull you out of your collapsed kitchen, not the anonymous emergency responder coming from fifty miles away.
A government worker isn’t going to know how many people live in the house across the street,
nor will he know whose room is whose; you will. The official response is important,
but we can’t rely on it (or ourselves) for everything.
The most successful recovery pockets of New Orleans were the ones with the strongest social ties. The federal response to the hurricane’s aftermath was infamously inept,
but the folks who knew and liked each other survived and rebuilt their communities faster.
So, folks, if you want to survive the next disaster, make friends with your neighbors. Get to know them.
If you have a lemon tree, take a paper bag full of them over. Have a block party.
Throw a barbecue. Pet their dog, feed their cat. Get yourself a tribe.

That means:
- No computers, smartphones, or Internet.
- No e-book readers., No TV or radio.
- No lightbulbs or flashlights.
- Thus, you should be:--- Stocking up on candles.
- Splitting wood for the fireplace (if you have one and it’s cold enough to warrant it).
- Grabbing some good books, Bringing out the board games.
- Don’t actually turn off power to your entire house. You might need it in an emergency, and I don’t think letting your refrigerated and frozen food spoil in the name of purity is worth it.
- Just turn off the laptop, the phone, the lights, and disconnect all elective electronics.
- Make sure your schedule is clear. Finish all your work and let people know that you’re going to be out of commission (and that they’re free to come visit in person!).
- Go longer if you can. Two days should be the minimum, but go for three or even four if you can manage it.

Learning to stock an adequate storm cabinet with essential provisions is a skill I learned early and a practice I continue. I have jugs of frozen water in our spare freezer so if the power goes out, everything stays nice and cold for several days. If stuff starts to thaw, cook on the outdoor barbecue or firepit. In my experience, this list will easily last a few days to a week without power. If the power is going to be off longer than that for a very severe storm, it is best to seek another location until normalcy is restored. I keep a hurricane cabinet stocked all year long as it comes in handy if the power goes out for any reason not just because of a bad storm. I don’t stock snackie sugary foods as boredom eating can easily take hold while without power and over-consumption of these foods can lead to grumpy kids which is not helpful during increased stress. I focus my cabinet on foods that will nourish and fill. In my experience, you really need less food than you think during a hurricane, so if you focus on the nourishing foods, an adequate hurricane cabinet really doesn’t require that much space. - We pray for all those suffering...for all those who are in shock...
- for all who are still living in chaos and confusion, for those who are still in literal darkness
- with no power and for those who are finding their lives in ruin...
- Lord, we ask that you provide for them and do what only you can.
- We pray for all those who are still waiting to hear from loved ones that they are okay....
- we ask that you calm anxious hearts and minds.
- We ask that you please protect all the workers who are in such danger
- as they try to repair and restore what has been damaged.
- We pray for those who lost loved ones, Lord.
- Please comfort them as they grieve and we also thank you that there were not more lives lost.
We ask Lord, that you will meet every need for those who are praying with us today. - Each of us are dealing with our own issues right where we are at
- and we ask for your provision and healing, Father.
- In Jesus' name we pray, Amen
May God’s blessing be upon you as you find His miracles in unexpected places.

In our humanness, we mourn and grieve and think it’s something to be ashamed of to say,
“I am weak, I can’t do this”…but you rejoice when you hear those words from us.
Our weakness is the preparation that you need to fill us…
our brokenness is the preparation you need to lift us up.
Lord, so many times you have shown us in your word,
how you use the foolish things of the world to confound the wise.
You chose Moses, a man with a speech impediment to speak for you to your people.
You chose a young shepherd boy to slay a giant
so you could show age or size does not matter when you are by our side.
You gave Joshua’s army the battle plan of walking around the walls of Jericho to bring it down…
You are always showing us that you think outside of the box
so that your power is manifest in our weakness.
Your ways always show it is you, not us, that delivers and rescues us in our time of need.
You do not value what the world values…you value a broken and contrite heart.
Lord, as people grieve and mourn and hurt and struggle,
may these words fill them with hope….you aren’t done with them yet.
Their brokenness is preparing them for what you have next for them.
Their brokenness makes them worthy of their calling…
you are pouring into them all that they need to move forward and press on.
Your strength is being made perfect in their weakness. Their brokenness is beautiful to you…
not a sign of weakness or failure…a sign that they are now ready to be made whole and complete in you.
It’s really a stage of metamorphosis, but we rarely see it that way…
something beautiful comes from the pain and struggles.
We see your hand on us and those broken places, are filled with more of you
and that puts being broken in a whole new perspective.
We are not left empty and broken. Fill us Lord we pray.
Fill us to overflowing with your goodness and mercy and strength.
It’s not by our might or by our power, but by yours Lord and we rejoice in that.
We thank you that what the world sees as scars and defects, you see as beautiful.
Thank you Lord, for what we have to look forward to as you build us up after we’ve been broken down.
The world is harsh, but you are good.
Blessed be your name Lord.
We love you and thank you for what you are doing in each of us. In Jesus name, Amen.
I am going to rejoice with you friends to see the beauty for ashes that God brings into your lives!
You are so loved!

Hope For The Broken Hearted
Dear Lord, Events happen
that cause us all to realize just how little we control in this world.
When we see the devastation from a natural disaster, we all realize
that it doesn't matter if we live in poverty in Haiti or in an affluent city like New York,
when it gets down to the basics, we are all the same. We are all just visiting this place...
it is not our home and we are all in desperate need of a Savior.
Lord, we see and hear about death and disasters regularly.
No one escapes it. Some see it more than others.
Those in war-torn areas live daily with bombings, shootings and other physical threats...
all because of greedy evil men with a lust for power. Some know all to well about suffering and death,
because they live in poverty...whether it's in small villages throughout the world
or the hidden streets of places like,L.A.
Some of us are never called to live with such extreme burdens, but when it comes down to it,
no one escapes suffering, death or dying in this life...
it just comes in different forms and varying amounts.
What we are reminded of in times like this Lord,
is that we all suffer the ravaging effects of a corrupt and dying world.
We see, as Paul says in Romans, the groaning that all creation experiences, because of sin in the world.
We feel pain as we watch others suffer.
We have heavy hearts as we watch as people's worlds are devastated.
We mourn with those who mourn.
We get a visual reminder, of what things are truly important.
We realize that life is fragile and fleeting and that we waste way too much time
on things that do not matter in light of eternity.
Everything in this life will pass, but only what is done for Christ will last.
Lord, what we need to remind ourselves of in times like these, is that you are sovereign.
You do not waste pain or suffering...and you are still good through it all.
You will use these trials and pain to transform us if we allow you to.
Though we will suffer and struggle in this life,
we have a hope and a promise of what good these things will work in us.
They help us to look forward to and appreciate what is waiting ahead.
One day there will be a new earth and heaven.
There will be no super storms or earthquakes...
or houses and material things that can be demolished or destroyed.
We will trade in the things that are perishable here, for the imperishable things of glory.
Lord, we are imperfectly human and our brains can't begin to understand everything in this life...
but one day we will clearly see and understand as the veil is removed and all is revealed.
But till that time Lord, we cling to you and we say, "the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away,
blessed be the name of the Lord".
We stand united together as we pray Lord...standing in the gap for all that are heartbroken today..
.we stand in the gap and lift up all the fearful, anxious and worried as they wonder about loved ones...
as they wonder what is going to happen to them
as they watch everything they've known change overnight.
We join together as one voice and know because where two or more are gathered you are in our midst.
You see the tears and hear the cries and you are grieving right along with us.
Lord, we pray in the midst of all the pain around the world today,
for those who are crying out to you and asking
"Where are you God"...we pray that they will feel your presence like a warm blanket on a cold day
and they will know you are faithful to never leave or forsake them.
We love you Lord and we thank you that we have a Savior in whose name we can pray. Amen
My thoughts and prayers are with you all!
You are loved,
