~ Listen To The Garden ~
Every garden has a story, if we but stop and read
And turn the leaves most gently, our heart and soul to feed.
There's a mystery in petals, stamens, pistils, pods
Word, for word we read to find, the tender heart of God.
Turn every leaf and see, the veins, the pattern clear
Pause with thought to listen, His whispers you will hear.
Breathe in and murmur low, inhale the pungent, sweet
Then press the velvet softness, against your rosy cheek.
Look deep into the colour, the texture of each plant
Watch the insects all at work, the bee, the wasp, the ant
Sit, feel the breeze, its secrets, softly sway
For every garden has a story, God's unfolding every day.

There is a lesson in each flower, a story in each stream and bower
In every herb, on which you tread, are written words which mighty read
Which lead you from each fragrant sod
To hope, to holiness, to God

~ Listen To Peace ~How can a heart sleep, within the snowstorm's mighty roar Could the hope of spring ahead Be the secret hidden cause. Peace, we long for it's illusive season, where can it be found, Is it in a balmy meadow With warmest sunshine all around. Is it truest when we're laughing, where lots of friends are found, Gathered at a Christmas tree Where loveliness abounds. Do we feel its power, only when it's all serenely still, When troubles are no more And there is no pain to feel. Is it only after fortune cookies, with accolades profuse- Or can contentment become a reality When things are more obtuse. While the wind is howling wild, the rain can be all we feel, But when life's velvet is all wet Will secret buds of spring become the real. We watch a delicate little bird, sitting calmly in her nest, While winds rage on, she fears not Within the storm... at rest. When grief tears at our heart, shall we also be secure from care Oh, how miraculous the peace sent from up above, to hush our heart... so calm, within the winter that we bear. ~ Listen To The Hummers ~
Two little hummingbirds came calling Hovering aloft, flying in the flowers, I could feel their tiny waft. I watched their gentle nature, The wings of gentle hue, The prettiest, yet brightest eyes As back and forth they flew. Two little hummers, came into my garden, Oh, such a special gift, A tender touch from heaven And there I sat transfixed. A little peck, a little reach, With nary there a care, Safe within their haven God would have them share. Two little hummers, came to me today, I wanted so to touch, The silver, gold and burnished bronze, My feelings all a rush. As there I saw my Jesus, His character and heart, The hand of love that made His self to us, impart. Two little hummers evanescence, Revolving, whirling, still, Every blossom glittering Ruby, royal, emerald. The sunlight glistened, flashing by For me to see and hear, In the tree, the flower bed, Was it there, or over here. Two little hummers, whispered very soft, My Father, glistened in the mist, He had them fly beside me- His love, the silver kiss. ~ Listen To The Birds ~
Hearken to the birds on high, listen for their call,
What might they be disclosing, what of our God unfold.
From His own heart they come, a reflection of His love,
Listen to the message coming from above.
Life is very fragile, listen to them say,
Live for God, each moment, trust Him as your stay.
Abandon fear and torment, joy in God, to fly,
Let your spirit now take wing, live by faith on high.
Delight in every beauty, life is in God's hand,
Trust Him for the future, we cannot understand.
Sing upon the dawning, to greet each lovely day.
Feed upon the blessing God will send your way.
Play with friends and family, listen to them call.
Soar in heaven's glory, whistle in your role.

But how shall we rest in God? By giving ourselves wholly to Him.
If you give yourself by halves, you cannot find full rest -
there will ever be a lurking disquiet in that half which is withheld...
All peace and happiness in this world depend upon unreserved self-oblation to God.
If this be hearty and entire, the result will be an unfailing, ever-increasing happiness,
which nothing can disturb. There is no real happiness in this life
save that which is the result of a peaceful heart.

~ Listen To The Snowflake ~
'Twas just a little snowflake, pretty, soft and new, Perfect in design, unique, what then can it do. Small, of common birth, among a world of flakes, Whirling in a stormy night Caught in a certain place. Displaying beauty on life's stage, Captured in this special time, Made only for this moment- none other of its kind. Beautiful in form, delight, softly does it fall, So very softly gives away, self, so very small. Settles down in softness, disappears from view, Complete now in its calling Done all that it could do. Made just for this purpose- beauty so unseen, Made by The Creator, just as it needs to be. For the season, of this moment Dance now in the glow, whirl and twirl His beauty The love He'd want to show. Spin within the many, displaying gentle love, God will see you, love you- Pretty little One Soft whispers from Derry's Heart Poems © Nov 2010 |
~ Listen To The Rain~
Dripping drops of water, listen to it fall Quenching earth, the dryness cracks, and then the dry is gone. Listen to the gentle tone, softly shall it rain Pitter, patter, pitter patter Blessing pouring down. Heaven's window open, clouds of puddles sent, Dropping from the blanket, all is soggy wet. Listen to it drumming, pattern, rhythm, drink Soak up all the moisture Walk in it and think. Listen for refreshment, soft as morning dew. Smell the rain, God sends Be cleansed, all washed and new. ~ Listen To The Tears ~
Wrap up the sky, no let it furl, curl up the gorgeous trees No, let them stand, I need the shade I need them, now for me. Let all the softness go away, the fur of dog and cat Their cuteness makes me cry the more No, don't go, come back. Let oceans roar, drown out the song I cannot hear today, Lord, where's the love I need You now, I need You so today. Make time stand still, or let it whirl... I don't know anymore, just help me walk Each step, with You, Please come and hold the door. Still the music, it makes me cry, No, turn it up real loud, I do not want to Hear my sobs, I want to sleep right now. But, then I'll dream, will it be nice, Or will I cry there too, yet, in the silence, There is love, Lord, hold me close to You. I look on high and see Your stars, And watch the shiny moon, Oh Lord, Let me not depend, on naught, it hurts- Just help me lean on You. ~ Listen To The Baggage ~
This bag I carry's much too full What can I do, but put it down, I sit and gaze at it, It bulges, sharp angled things jut out here and there, I poke at it, push it with my foot- It makes me sad somewhat. I don't want to lift it anymore, the tears escape, I didn't know, they'd built up, to overflow. I let them drip, then open up the bag, pulling at the draw strings so. I lift out a heavy thing, turn it over, fondle it a bit, ponder it anew, Then hold it high... The sun glints on it, blinds my eye- I muse then, what to do. Suddenly I realise, and hold it to the sky- Here Lord, I say, Please take this far away, It's far to cumbersome for me to carry every day. He reached right down, I felt His smile, He took that weight, I felt it fly. I said Lord, take it all for good, and please Lord, I feel heavy, Can you take me too. ~ Listen to Eternity...
And there I will be, gazing so soon like a bloom,
with it's face to the sky, and there will be bliss
the sky all ablaze, stars shooting by
the cosmos encircling, the throne all aglow
My Jesus will smile and there I will cry
tears of great joy
My Jesus I love You.... and there will be heaven
My Jesus and I

I lay my 'whys?' before Your cross in worship kneeling, my mind beyond all hope,
my heart beyond all feeling; and worshipping,
realize that I, in knowing You, don't need a 'why?'

~ Listen To The Little World ~
Did you ever dig beneath the earth To observe a wiggly worm, Give thanks for how he works for us In the dark so gladly squirms.... Did you ever hear a songbird sing The saddest notes on high, Wishing for the sun to shine And rain be bid goodbye... Did you ever see a butterfly Sitting broody in a mood, Upset with how his life is short So the day becomes unglued... Did you ever see a busy ant So in tune with what he does, Walking endless single files And never making any fuss.... Did you ever ponder honey bees A buzz there as they fly, Gathering from each blossom sweet And never asking why.... Did you ever watch a slimy snail And wonder how he copes, Slithering along so very slow That great big shell to tote.... Did you ever watch a lizard run Those dull grey scales he wears, And think of how he has to hide And never gets to share... Did you ever catch a lady bug And hold her in your hand, Then think of how the color, spots Is more of God to understand.... Yes, listening long to all He made We ponder as we view, Sitting hushed we learn the more The love of God anew... Soft whispers from Derry's Heart Poems © Aug 2009 heartwhispers@iinet.net.au |
~ Listen To The Ladybird ~
What message may she carry Winging down from skies above, Carried from the heart of God Who fashioned her with love. Is each one safe, unique Within the Father's plan, In the molding of each detail Unfolding from His hand. Declaring in her glory Her fragility so dear, That days can yet be lived Devoid of any fear. And might we be inspired Gazing at her there, Calmly walking where she's led With never any care. Could she speak of comfort That no matter any ill, The Father holds us all So, we too can be still. And walk on in His pathway As a ladybug will do, In a special call to fill God's call for me and you. Soft whispers from Derry's Heart Poems © May 2009 heartwhispers@iinet.net.au Wonder... ~ Listen To Tomorrow ~
Every time you miss them so, and wish that they were here,
Look, long and hard with the eyes of God, to see His hemisphere.
For, He sees you with your loved one, His future is the 'now',
To Him, we are in heaven, where perfect love is found.
We are closer to our loved one, today, than yesterday,
For eternity's begun, with them in Jesus Christ, close, we ever stay.
We may not see their body, but, in heart, we're always one,
For earthly trial and sorrow, to them, will never come.
No argument, nor pain, will separate us e'er
To their eyes, that live forever, we are already there.
Up there, they know no sadness, so never miss us so,
Us in love with them, is all they ever know.
So, if God says perfect love, is where we are to live,
Then that is where we're seated, now, as fear He never gives.
Thus feel love's arms around you, that love will never let you go,
The love of heaven's more secure, than what we now call home.

~ Listen To The Colour ~
If we could, would we want to choose The blessing of our birth, Then, would we have the wisdom for selecting Our origins on earth. Oh, but after, such choice we all most surely have, How of heart and soul we give, The many choices we can make In how we daily seek to live. I can surely see, how you have blossomed so In rich beauty of the heart, Creating all the special wonder To me your love imparts. I like to see your beauteous colour, You, in a completing sort of way, Because that's the reality we are The ultra special way we're made. Our colour's our dimension, yours and mine The ever present who we are, The make-up of our being The splendid wrapping of our heart. I never look past you, as you can never I, As if diverse does not exist. The wonder, the glory of your being As one that brings me kindness, peace. There is great pleasure in our difference Added thrill, the way we're made, I like you splendidly, because you're you And love you more each day. If you were all the same, as I What glorious rainbow would be then, How would we know psychedelic color Except by multi spectrum friends. I celebrate God's magnificent palette And are so glad for me He found, My sublime friend with a character I just wouldn't be without. ~ Listen To Titanic ~
And there we were, together one, Though society says not, Society says wealth is the key To lift one up aloft. And there we were, a little world A-float upon the sea, A thimble of example Of how the earth proceeds. And there we were, traversing, From here to over there Busy in a daily life, Without a deeper care. And there we were, with God or not Adrift on unseen depth Talking, laughing, praying The sun arose and set. And there we were, the engines fed
Life's safe, and so secure It cannot sink...Dance, drink and dine In time to wile, endure. And there we were, oblivious To what soon lies ahead In trust upon what man can build Without a thought of death. And there we were, and now we think
The pride was so futile, But where and how is trust today How is a lifetime styled. And there we are, but who is safe When body, dress be gone, We know that those who love the lord Are home now with their God. There's nothing we can take with us No turning round to keep, The stuff that we accumulate Will always only sink. Yes, in the end, none else holds worth Than where our spirit is, We cannot save this sinking ship In Christ, alone, we live. The principles of gain through loss, of joy through sorrow, of getting by
giving,
of fulfillment by laying down, of life out of death is what that Book teaches,
and the people who have believed it enough to live it out in simple, humble,
day-by-day practice are people who have found the gain, the joy, the getting, the fulfillment,
the life.
